As we take the pursuit of happiness as an unalienable right of the human being, it is being severely thwarted in regions where the living conditions are unfavorable. Although high level of material life does not necessarily lead to happiness, for people to whom sufficient food cannot be guaranteed, happiness is a luxury. Providing the starving people with enough food is of no doubt one of the most important missions that we should undertake to increase the well-being of mankind.
Understanding the plant-microbe interaction gives us great potentials to save our crops around the world from being devoured by plant pathogens. It also provides us with more environmentally friendly ways to achieve this goal. Much progress has been made in the journey of understanding the plant defense, but we still know very little about the nature of this process.
I believe that one day we will be able to produce sufficient food to support all human lives in this world. Together with the wisdoms from policy makers, the pursuit of happiness will be no longer a dream for people from each and every corner on our planet.
